Meet Captain Larry

Larry Varela is a US Coast Guard Captain, licensed to run up to 100 miles offshore. In addition, he’s also a California Fish and Game licensed guide for the lakes and rivers. Being raised by his father in the sport, Captain Larry has over 45 years of experience on the local and ocean waters. Over the years, he’s gained extensive knowledge and experience with many species, conditions and bodies of water. “I started fishing with my Grandma Phoebe in the High Sierras and the Colorado River. After moving to the Sacramento area when I was in the first grade, my Dad and I started fishing Folsom Lake and the Sacramento River three days a week with frequent trips to the bay and the ocean. When I got my drivers license, I used my new independence to chase my life’s passion, spending most of my time on the American River fishing steelhead and salmon and the remaining time on a lake, river or the Bodega Bay. From there, I’ve spent most of my life chasing the next wide open bite!”
